STUDIO NEWS!

March 8, 2011
This is probably one of the hardest blog posts I’ve had to make but time to share with you the changes that are taking
place. Urban Elements Photography is closing.  There are some big changes in the works, and I would first like to thank
each and every client I have had the pleasure to photograph. I have learned so much from each session, and I have
made some amazing friendships too throughout the last 4 years that I have been in business. Both with clients and
other photographers. While it was a hard choice to make, I know in my heart of hearts it will be the best one for my
family and I. I look forward to having more time with my kids. I only have a few more years left with my baby before
he starts school. I will have more time to photograph my kiddos and just be a mom when I am home. So while I am
closing my business and spending more time at home, I will not be leaving the Photography industry completely. I am
thrilled and excited to share that I will be going to work behind the scenes for Tanya Rae Photography. Tanya and I
have been friends for many years now, in fact she photographed our family in 2004! I have always had a huge respect
for her and her work. We have a ton of ideas, and I can’t wait to have a regular work schedule again. *smile*
To my clients, especially those I was able to photograph for the last few years, I highly recommend that since I can no
longer be your photographer, that you check out Tanya’s work and keep an eye on her facebook page and blog *smile*
Tanya specializes in newborn photography, but has a great eye for capturing families, children and teens from behind
the lens as well. Her studio is beautiful, and the land surrounding her studio is the perfect backdrop for
spring/summer and fall sessions. With an extra set of hands at work, she will have more time to book more sessions
and I simply can’t wait to see where her business will go this year. I invite all my past clients that when you are ready
for your next session that you book it with Tanya Rae Photography! http://www.tanyaraephotography.com/
For those of you with prepaid sessions, or waiting on orders please be assured that I will absolutely fulfill my
commitment to you! I look forward to these last sessions, knowing that I won’t be shooting for some time now….and I
can use some of my fave locations and ideas!
For those of you with Gift Certificates, please contact me to book you appointment as soon as possible if you have not
already heard from me. I have attempted to contact everyone with outstanding orders or session dates, but if for
some reason you have not heard from me, I can still be reached at 780-779-6486.
As difficult as this post was for me to write, I realize how blessed I am that I can stay home with Cohen for a few more
years, and still work a few days a week. I believe this is the start to a more balanced life for myself and my family and I
am really excited about what is to come.

I enjoyed this session from start to finish. Two beautiful parents and their very sweet baby boy who just turned one. We did a 3 in 1 session…. engagement pictures, baby turning 1 and a few family ones! We did some in studio and some around town…. we lucked out when the weather wasn’t too cold and we were able to venture outdoors for part of their session. It was fun working in different spaces, different lighting and with a couple willing to try anything… including them climbing into an old plane of some kind! They asked for urban and hot, and I do believe we pulled that off :)

Thank you Val for trusting me to photograph your first photo session, and for capturing these images for you and your family.

Twice the Blessing, two to love.

A brother and a sister…..born on the same day. It was a pleasure to photograph newborn twins last week! Thank you Mom and Dad for being so patient as a twins session can sometimes be twice as long as a regular newborn session but you guys were so patient with me. I hope you were able to relax and enjoy some quite moments in those hours… I can’t imagine how busy your life now is ;) but no matter how busy it is… I know that you are loving every single second of it :)

“Before you were conceived
I wanted you
Before you were born
I loved you
Before you were here an hour
I would give my life for you
This is the miracle of life.

THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the New Year’s Project Life Giveaway! I loved reading all your resolutions :) I used random.org to select the winner and it is Amanda D. with her comment:

“Great giveaway!!! You have amazing work!!! One of my New Year’s resolutions is to spend more time actually playing with my kids.”

Thank you for your comment Amanda, if you could send me an email at info@urbanelementsphotography with your mailing address I will get that sent out to you as soon as possible!

If you are interested in purchasing the kit for yourself you can do so by clicking on the Project Life logo below!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I was first introduced to Project Life last year when my cousin Rebecca showed me a recent purchase she had made. I loved it, everything about it…. but I was too late to get one for myself. This year, the same project is now available once again and I did not miss out. In face I purchased a couple. I want to gift one to one lucky blog reader…… I think it’s a great gift to ring in the New Year :) They have been ordered but not yet arrived and I can’t wait to start.

One of my resolutions this year is to print more personal pictures. I have to admit I’m pretty good at getting some printed every few months and inserting them into photo albums but I miss the journalling part that went with scrapbooking. I know many of my clients scrapbook, and though I haven’t had time to do that anymore….THIS is the perfect solution. A way to encourage you to print more pictures that you take (or me…did you know there’s a scrap pack that can be purchased from the boutique side of my price guide?) and to write a little something about them.

WHAT IS IT??? Well….. simply click on this link and you’ll see :) http://www.beckyhiggins.com/products/

HOW TO WIN?!?!???!!? Simple! Make sure you ‘like’ our facebook page and leave a comment on this blog entry with your New Years Resolution and one random winner will be picked by midnight JANUARY 6th!!!

Good Luck and enjoy the start to a new year!!!

I have so many ideas that would work for an outside session, just give me a call to book yours :)

***PLEASE NOTE: This mini session includes 10-15 proof images to view in a slideshow. All prints and digital files are sold seperately.

Hi and Merry Christmas!!! I hope everyone had a fun filled holiday this past week. We packed up and went back home to visit our family for the holidays and it was the break we all needed :) I am unofficially back to work today, but officially back January 4th. There is a special promotion going on for January and February only so check it out at www.facebook.com/urbanelementsphotography  Later today there will also be a New Year ‘Celebrate Life’ kind of give away, so check back soon!

It has been a very busy fall season and my poor blog has been neglected. I’m just going to jump back in and start sharing some of the beautiful families I got to work with this fall.

Starting with this one….. I remember doing the consultation with mom, where we discussed locations and what fun thing we can do with the kids. This is something that is always covered in the consulation as it gives some direction for the photo shoot. Together we brainstorm an activity or theme for the kids to do or play during the session which is the part I love to photograph best! I much prefer photographing those real smiles, silly faces and loving hugs then anything forced or truly posed. I definately guide the family into natural poses but always keep them interacting with eachother. On the day of this particular session it was COLD out..very, very cold. You would never know it though, they were so excited to have their pictures taken and the kids couldn’t have been better to work with. They were *SO* sweet…and such a pleasure to get to know! Loved their style too….check out the pink shoes! The kids were soooo cooperative, so it was fun to try a few new things with them :)

Thank you for letting me capture these images for your family Tammy, I can’t wait to see them in print! :)

I always enjoy working with this family :) We had a small window of opportunity (or light heheh) to do their mini session but we definately made it work. I loooove when clients bring cool things to their sessions like an old red wagon :) Enjoy your images Angie and fam, it was a pleasure to capture these for you!

Knowing that summer is over, and we will soon see the white stuff…. I found myself going through our summer pictures last night. When I opened these pictures of Cohen and his new bike they totally made me smile. On this particular day he was fixing his bike so it would go faster lol… I never want to forget his short and cute sentences, or watching him fix his little bikes, they grow so fast! Thank goodness for pictures :) There is nothing artsy about these pictures, they simply are what the title says, but they still mean the world to me!

A huge congratulations to Mariah, one of my fabulous clients who won the title of  Alberta’s model for 2010-2011! Mariah, I wish you a lot of success in this new adventure, you are not only a beautiful girl on the outside but on the inside too!
